Our 60th Season (2025 - 2026)

Overview

Our sixtieth anniversary year is full of the things we love doing: commissioning new works, celebrating key milestones, and collaborating with musical friends, old and new.

Suddenly everyone burst out singing is the title of our October 2025 concert bringing together not only the Chapter House Choir, but also the Chapter House Youth Choir (celebrating their 10th anniversary), and the Jervaulx Singers. The theme was 'rememberance'.  The three choirs join forces to sing Owain Park's Footsteps, Roderick Williams' Everyone Sang and Herbet Howells' Requiem, but also perform other pieces in varying combinations.

Carols by Candelight on the 19th December, is a yearly celebration of the Christmas season, and has been a central part of the choir's activities since it's inception in 1965.  This year sees a new commission by French soprano and composer Héloïse Werner, and a return for Andrew Carter's Jesus Christ the Apple Tree, written for the choir and first performed in 2022.  The Chapter House Youth Choir will join forces with us, and the handbell ringers of the choir will once again play an important role.

Recording of Christmas music in late January.  Just as everyone else puts away the Christmas decorations, we will be gearing ourselves up to record a selection of Christmas music, our first recording in several years.

Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, Ely Cathedral
We travel to Ely in March to collaborate with the Fairhaven Singers who are based in Cambridge to perform Benjamin Britten's iconic work, the War Requiem accompanied by the Brandenburg Sinfonia. 

God's Own Country is the title of our Spring 2026 concert in April, featuring pieces by Yorkshire composers, or rooted in, or inspired by this incredible county. It promises to be a glorious and varied concert.

Gala Concert in June.  Bringing former conductors and choir members back to join the current choir, this will be a celebration of all things Chapter House Choir, packed with favourites, old and new.
